Back on Track at Silverstone
With race preparation now being provided by EMC Motorsport we arrived at Silverstone with much trepidation. Having raced for EMC previously in the Open Series a couple of seasons back, I did feel a bit like the prodigal son, but was most impressed with the effort the guys had put in to effectively rebuild my car from the previous round.
QualifyingWith new rear brakes having been installed only the day before, caution was the watchword in the qualifying session. My fastest lap was my last and with the times dropping all the while we knew the car would be more competitive in the race, so I was not too disappointed by my 5th place in Class.
Race 1
A rather average start saw both the 944s of Dave Roberts and Frank Cortes get the drop on me but I was able to keep in close proximity of Neil Harvey's 911. However as the race progressed he was able to ease away when an uncharacteristic mistake by Frank brought him back into play. I was able to pass him and prevent him from getting & staying back passed - alongside doesn't count Frank! Neil, Mark and Dave had pulled out an unassailable gap, so I finished fourth in class, but it was good to be back in the action again.
Race 2
The second race proved to be a top scrap between Frank, Dave & myself. It started when the lights went out and kept going right up until the chequered flag dropped. The 911s of Mark and Neil escaped as the three of us were caught up tripping over each other, with places being swapped repeatedly throughout the half hour race. We were never more than a few inches apart and going through Copse on one occasion it was considerably less than that - thanks Dave, but I'm sure your paint looks better on your car! Dave took third in Class closely perused by myself, with Frank following home in fifth.
Reflection
The switch to EMC has proved to be a huge step in the right direction; it was so good to drive a competitive car again! A big thank you goes out to Kevin, Alex, Mark, John & Ben for all the efforts they have put in over the previous three weeks to make it all possible. We expect to see better things going forward, I just need to keep my foot planted. See you at Spa!
